Mackenzie & James | The Midland Theater Wedding | Kansas City Wedding Photographer

May 9, 2026 · Kansas City, Missouri

Some couples spend months obsessing over every detail. Mackenzie and James did something different. They chose The Midland Theater, then focused on their people.

I think that is the best way to do it.

The Midland does its own heavy lifting. The chandeliers, the velvet seats, the gold ceiling. Mackenzie and James knew that when they booked it. The whole day felt like a big party with their favorite people.

The Morning

The girls got ready at The President Hotel in Kansas City. We joined them on the party bus to St. Francis de Sales. The energy on that bus was great. Everyone was relaxed and ready.

At the church, we finished up. We steamed the dresses, got Mackenzie into her gown, and took the detail shots. The rings, the bouquet, the invite suite. I love this part of the day. It is quiet and it feels real.

The Ceremony

Their ceremony was at St. Francis de Sales in Lansing, KS. Church ceremonies always get to me. The stillness, the weight of the vows, the light through the windows. When Mackenzie walked down the aisle, James tried hard not to cry. He did not quite make it. ( Also, get you a supportive best man like James did!)

Their first kiss was one of those moments. Stained glass behind them. The whole room watching.

The Portraits

After the ceremony, we went to The Midland for portraits. Mackenzie and James were easy to photograph. They were relaxed, playful, and at ease with each other. They just wanted to have fun.

We put them in the theater seats for the big shot. That gold ceiling above them. We also used the grand staircase, the marble columns, the long hallways. Every corner of that building worked.

The Reception

The reception looked stunning. Dark tablecloths, gold candlesticks, deep red flowers, rich colors. Forevermore Event Design did a beautiful job with the space.

The cake from Bloom Baking Co was gorgeous. Two tiers, with wine dark and gold leaf. Catering by Brancato's kept everyone happy and full all night.

The dance floor filled up from the first song. DJ Kassie from Elevated Entertainment read the room well. Nobody wanted the night to end.

A Note from Me

Mackenzie and James, thank you for having me. You knew what you wanted: a beautiful space, your people, a great night. You got all of it.

If you are planning a Kansas City wedding, I would love to hear from you. I will keep you calm and taken care of the whole day.
